This is a week long course introducing you to the MTC and teaching the basics of the Nam Yang Arts. It forms the first week of the instructor training course.During this course, you will be assessed as to your suitability to train as a martial arts instructor.
The objectives of the induction course are as follows:
- To enable you to meet the Nam Yang instructors, experience the training, ask questions and experience life at the Mountain Training Camp before fully committing to the training.
- To enable the instructors to give a realistic report on your potential with respect to the course and to pursuing a career in martial arts, and to answer questions.
- To enable the instructors to screen out inappropriate characters. This particularly applies to the following: people who are indisciplined, disrespectful, unable to follow the club’s behaviour code or unable to conform with the type of behaviour expected of a Shaolin martial artist; people likely to use the art irresponsibly, particularly with respect to injuring others; people likely to bring the club’s name into disrepute.
Course Contents:
1) Fitness and flexibility assessments
2) Tour of MTC, explanation of procedures, behaviour code etc.
3) Basic training in:
- Opening meridians
- Improving flexibility / elasticity
- Shaolin Tiger – Crane Art
- Shaolin Sun Frost White Crane Soft And Gentle Art
- Tong Ling Chi Kung
- Vein – Tendon Chi Kung
- Meditation
- Conditioning
- Pushing / Sticking hands training
- Self defence applications
- History of Shaolin kung fu
4) Personal interview
At the end of the induction course, all participants will receive a personal,
confidential debrief summarizing their strengths and weaknesses and
assessing their suitability for the course. They will also be given advice as to
any specific training that they should do in addition to the standard program. If someone is deemed unsuitable for acceptance, they will be told so.
No specific fitness / flexibility levels are specified but it is very useful for us to
understand what levels people are operating at.
Payment
The cost of the induction course is included in the total price of the instructor training course. In the unlikely event that you are not accepted on the course or you choose not to proceed with it, the course fee will be refunded minus $700 for the induction course and admin / bank costs.
