Mission statement:

Mountain Training Camp grounds

To provide an unrivalled quality of training in the best possible environment to produce the best possible martial artists.

To produce high quality martial arts films: instructional and otherwise.

To train a new generation of instructors good enough to represent Nam Yang and to carry on the Nam Yang family name.

To provide a fully equipped base to which all Nam Yang members can come to train.

Through all of the above, to raise the standard of our members’ kung fu to a level worthy of representing the old masters from whom our kung fu family is descended.

The Mountain Training Camp is designed to be the ultimate martial arts training venue! It is set in 2.1 acres of land on the side of a mountain spur, bordering the jungle and with awesome views across the Pai river valley to mountains which rise steadily, layer on layer, to the Himalayas, the roof of the world!

In the early morning, when we begin training, the mountains are usually shrouded in mist which gradually clears as the sun rises.

The school is built in the local Shan style architecture according to Chinese feng shui principles.

We grow our own vegetables and by 2010 expect to be self sufficient for rice, corn, vegetables, herbs and eggs.

Rooms are very spacious and comfortable with fan and en suite shower room and toilet / wash room.

We have our own restaurant in beautiful style where we prepare all of our own food, using home grown ingredients wherever possible.

We have wireless internet which is free to all those staying here.

Our training facilities include two octagonal training areas: an open area 18m x 18m and a roofed area 13m x 13m with 2cm thick mats throughout. We also have a training circuit with poles, a tyre dummy, punch bags and parallel bars.

Additional facilities include a prayer house, which may be used for meditation / prayer, an office and a huge statue of Tat Moh (Boddhidharma) the Shaolin founder.

The MTC provides fantastic photo / video opportunities, with constantly changing views according to the season.

The MTC is sheltered behind a mountain ridge so that no built up areas are within view – only farms, small villages, forested mountains etc. – but is in fact only 15 minutes walk from the lively Pai town with its multitude of restaurants, bars, cafes etc. so you really do get the best of both worlds!

The mountain training centre is designed to give a complete experience, providing the best of:

Ethos

Ethos

The MTC is a martial arts school, not a holiday camp. We have a behaviour code which ensures that respect prevails and everyone can enjoy their stay quietly, without unreasonable disturbance. Disrespect and rudeness are not accepted here!

Food

fruit

Our food is carefully selected and prepared to support the training that we do. The importance of this should not be underestimated.

Home farm

vegetables

Our home farm produces most of our food – we care for it, watch it grow and pick it only when needed, to ensure perfect freshness.

Herbal medicine

herbal medicine

The training we do is fairly demanding and can lead to tiredness and depletion. We offset this with traditional herbal medicines, specially selected to compliment the specialist training that we do.
